I always looking forward to travel and explore new places!
So, my friend decided to fly me to Jakarta, Indonesia on my birthday!
12 Feb - it's my birthday!! After work, took a train to Changi airport to catch 8.20pm flight.. After 2.5 hours, finally arrived at Jakarta international airport!
In Jakarta, only blue bird group cab is trustworthy and running on meters. The cab driver speak pretty good English although have to wait in the quene for a while. Checked into Ascotts residence and sleep. Totally exhausted!
13 Feb - After breakfast at the hotel, took Uber to Ancol Seaworld. One of the worse uber driver I have met. Jakarta has one of the worse traffic conditions too. 8km distance took almost an hour to arrive. Ancol Seaworld is a sea aquarium. There are sea otters, Sharks, big fish tanks, etc. I love their car fish tank and phone booth fish tank. Very interesting!
Ancol is like an amusement park with a lot of different theme park. So can easily spend a whole day there! Next up, took the cable car ride (they called it gondola) to arrive at the other end where there are beach and water sports! Grab fried rice, Satay and coconut for lunch. After which, head to this ship looking restuarant (the wharf) and had a cocktail there while overlooking the water park. There were few guys sliding on the water with anvil epic cable. It's a good training ground for beginners or even waterski avid to do difficult obstacles while following the standard route.cool...Headed to Monas after my drink.
Monas is national monument for Indonesia. It was 132m tower built to commemorate the struggle for Indonesian independence. It was closed by the time I was there! Made a round there and walked over to Istiqlal mosque or masjid Istiqlal. It is the largest mosque in Southeast Asia.it was built to commemorate Indonesian independence and named Istiqlal. It was huge. To be respectful, I have to put on a robe to cover my legs (I'm in shorts) and no shoes are allowed. There are lockers and children running outside the mosque looking eager to sell us the black bag to put our shoes. So, not to worry :)
At level 2, we can look down to the prayers arena whereby the Muslim pray. Very nice looking mosque.
Ironically, across the mosque, there is a Catholic Church (Jakarta cathedral). Well, Indonesian is the largest Muslim country in the world and finding cathedral across the largest mosque is not something I will expect to see.
Went back to hotel after that to rest my feet and shower!! The dinner was a feast! Went to this typical Indonesian resturant across the road. So many dishes which includes curry fish, curry chicken, beef redang, chicken wings in different cooking method, fish, different kinds of vegetables bla bla. I would say like 12 different dishes and I was so full after that. So plates didn't even touch before. Shopping at grand Indonesia which is just opposite the road. Gotten a shirt and head for cold chilled drinks in such a hot weather!
Ancol Seaworld
14 Feb - After breakfast, headed for traditional Indonesia massage with body
scrub. It costs around S$30 for 2 hours. Totally relax after that!! After 2 hours, it's time to check out and have about 3 hours to kill at grand Indonesia shopping mall again! Had chocolate churros for tea break! 3 hours passed in a blink of eyes (I didn't get anything at all) and it's time to head to the airport. Please be reminded to be early at the airport as the traffic was really bad! At least 3 hours buffer as the last 1km was just inching forward to the airport. I had a great time and will definitely return!!
