Stockholm & Tallinn

Another big trip at the end of the year!
On 30 December 2015, after work, I went to the airport and catch my first flight with Turkish airline to Stockholm, Sweden! The in-flight service is similar to Emirates. Games, movies, music..
After 11 hours, I finally arrived at Istanbul airport! It was snowing at the airport with snow covering the runway..very cool! After 2 hours transit, I went for my 2nd leg of my flight to Stockholm. Sat on the flight for 3 hours due to bad weather and snowing and another 3.5hours flight time to Stockholm..
Finally arrived at Stockholm around 2.50pm!

31 Dec - After arriving at 2.50pm in Stockholm and sky already turning dark..took the airport express to Stockholm central, then took the train to mariatorget station. Once I have check in to my BnB, I went straight to bed and prepared for tonight countdown. Woke up around 7pm and went to Pizza Hut for dinner as most of the restuarants were fully booked. Went back after dinner and left around 11.30pm to city hall for countdown. It was freezing cold..about -7 degree..More and more fireworks when the clock strike 12 and it was amazing! Happy new year 2016!
Went straight home after that as I have a morning cruise to catch Tmr.
                 Night in Stockholm

               Fireworks at midnight
1 Jan - it was the new year day and I booked the canal cruise at 10.15am. As the day light was very short in Stockholm (6hours), I have to wake up early to do all the stuffs when there is sun! The "break the ice" cruise was amazing and highly recommended. There was commentary in both English and Swedish and shared with us the history of the buildings. After 1.5 hours cruise, I went to Royal Palace to meet the king. The palace was somehow similar to other palace.. High ceiling with drawings, gold platen and design. As only the palace was opened to the public, I have to come again tomorrow for treasury and the hall. So, watched the change of guard at around 1.30pm. This was my first change of guard and the parade was impressive. Very different marching as compared to Singapore! Had meatball with raspberry sauce for lunch and head back to the room as most of the shopping malls were still closed. Had Mexican burrito for dinner before having a drink at one of the bar to call off the night!

2 Jan - I was excited when I woke up because I realized it was snowing!! I can't wake to finish my breakfast and soak myself into the snow!! Lol.. So, I headed back to the palace for the hall and treasury. In the treasure, no picture is allowed as they kept the crowns, swords and robe from the King and queen. Pretty cool. Subsequently, went to Nobel museum. I was abit disappointed with Nobel museum because it was so smal and packed and nothing much to see. The English guided tour was so packed and I can't even hear what he was saying. I just left after 20 mins to play in the snow. As the weather turn cooler, a hot latte with cheesecake for tea break can't get any better :)

After that, went to do shopping at Stockholm central as most of the malls were in operations. In the evening, I signed up for Stockholm ghost walk tour. I highly recommend this tour as the guide is funny and informative and most of the time we were out in the cold, please wear more clothes. The guide brought us to several places and told us the life of the past. I enjoyed myself a lot although being alone.
                        Snowing

                        Snowing

3 Jan - After breakfast, I took the ferry from my place to Vasa museum. Vasa is the ship that sank in 1628, after a few minutes the shop heeled over to port. The ship never really sailed and sank into the water. Thanks to engineers, the ship was salvaged in 1961 and brought to surface again. The ship was preserved very well. On the other hand, they uses high technology face recognition based on the skulls they found and created their background based on the remains. It was very cool!
Subsequently, walked over to ABBA museum. I think this museum cannot be missed as we all like their songs! They shared their background and music legend. There is ktv where you can sing in the small room and even 3D image where you can sing with ABBA.
Went back to the house to get my luggage after lunch as I have to cruise to catch at 5pm. It was still snowing :)

At 5pm, the sky already so dark. Went to the ferry terminal and catch the cruise "romantic" to Tallinn, Estonia. Once inside the cruise, there were so much to do. Casino, performance, duty free shopping and different bars. Had my steak for dinner before heading to casino for slot machine. Then went to watch the live performance. The band was great and so as the crowd. I had so much fun but need to sleep early due to my flu medication.

4 Jan - After 11 hours of cruising, finally arrived at Tallinn at 10am. It was -21 degree in Tallinn and I put on 4 clothes, 3pants to conquer the cold!
Took a cab to the old town and wait for the free tour guide. The guide was funny and interesting and show no mercy as the 2 hours tour were outdoor. I was totally frozen and can't felt my feets anymore. I went to each gift shop I can find along the way to warm myself. She brought us to cathedral, the war memorable and the view from the top. It was amazing. After the tour, went to the Christmas market. I'm so happy that there is still Christmas market around, playing the Christmas carols, reindeers. I was frozen even after my hot chocolate. After lunch, I was basically wrapping myself with scarf. My face was frozen as well. Went around to shop at the market and flee market and also went up to the hall to have a view. It was all covered in snow. Very pretty. Went to grab another hot chocolate before heading back to the ferry terminal. I went straight to bed after I arrived at the cruise and felt terrible. I had slight fever and pop medication and sleep through the night. By the time I woke up, I'm already near to Stockholm. I missed all the performance :(

5 Jan - arrived at Stockholm again around 10am. Went to Stockholm central to store my luggage first before Heading to Natural History museum to see dinosaur! It was huge museum and showcase almost everything. From endangered animals, to dinosaur, to human being. It was interesting. Headed back to Stockholm central to catch the train to Oslo, Norway at 3.20pm.
